Targets to cut the number of hungry people in the world will not be met without far greater international effort, the United Nations food agency has warned.

G8 inaction is contributing to hunger spiraling out of control with more than one billion people – a sixth of the world’s population – going hungry every day, ActionAid said today.

As the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation meets to discuss the food crisis in Rome today, debt campaigners have issued a call for a moratorium on debt repayments from afflicted countries.
